A Little Woodland Escape Near St Andrews: The Hide at Woodside

I love finding those little stays where you can arrive, shut the door and forget about everything else for a couple of days. The Hide at Woodside, just outside St Andrews, is exactly that.

Tucked away amongst the trees at Woodside's family-run farm in Strathkinness, just a few miles from St Andrews, The Hide is a private woodland snug designed for two. Surrounded by countryside and completely separate from the other accommodation at Woodside, it feels wonderfully secluded while still being close enough to St Andrews when you fancy heading to town to explore.
From the moment I arrived, it was easy to see why this little hideaway is all about switching off. The Hide itself is really cosy, with a king-size bedroom, ensuite shower room, kitchen and snug. There's also a private outdoor terrace where you can sit and enjoy the views across towards the Eden Estuary and St Andrews Bay.
But for me, it's the outdoor space that really makes The Hide special.
Outside, you'll find a wood-fired bath, which was definitely one of my favourite parts of the stay. Sitting out there with the trees around you, especially as the sun was going down, was such a lovely way to end the day. It's one of those things that makes the stay feel a bit different.

And then there's the pizza oven.
The private terrace has its own Ooni pizza oven, and you can order everything you need from Woodside to make fresh pizza during your stay. Sitting outside with the pizza you've made and a drink, knowing you don't have anywhere else to be, is exactly what a proper getaway should feel like.
And that's what I liked about The Hide. You don't really need to plan much. Of course, St Andrews is close enough if you want to head out for the day, explore the town, go to the beach or grab some food. There are also bikes available at The Hide, which means you can jump on and explore the surrounding area.
But you can just as easily spend the day at The Hide, make pizza, sit outside, enjoy the views and have a soak in the bath. It's definitely one for a quiet weekend away, especially if you're looking for somewhere that feels private without being miles from everything.
