UGC for Airbnbs: Why Your Property Needs More Than Professional Photos

If you run an Airbnb, holiday let, B&B, boutique hotel or glamping business, chances are you've invested in professional photography. And you should. Good photography can make a huge difference to how your property looks online and can be the difference between someone scrolling past your listing or clicking through to find out more.

I also offer professional photography as part of my accommodation content shoots, but alongside those polished images, I think there's a real place for UGC. User-generated content has become a huge part of how people consume content online, with creators sharing hotels they've stayed in, places they've visited and experiences they've had in a much more natural and relatable way than traditional advertising.

For accommodation businesses, this creates a useful opportunity to show your property in a different way.

So, what exactly is UGC?

UGC is content designed to look and feel like it has been created by a real guest or creator. It can include short-form videos, reels, photographs, voiceovers, walkthroughs, reviews, day-in-the-life style content and those little moments that bring a stay to life.

For an Airbnb, that could be a video of arriving at the property, a first look around the accommodation, making a coffee in the morning, using the hot tub, cooking dinner, exploring the local area or simply relaxing in the space.

The important thing is that it doesn't have to feel overly produced. In fact, the more natural it feels, the more useful it can be. People are already used to seeing this style of content every day on Instagram and TikTok, so it fits naturally into the way potential guests are consuming travel inspiration.

Why should your Airbnb be using UGC?

One of the biggest benefits of UGC is that it gives you a completely different type of content to your professional photography. When I photograph an accommodation property, the aim is to showcase it at its best, giving you high-quality images that can be used across your website, listings and marketing.

UGC does something different. It shows the property being used.

Your professional photographs might show a beautiful hot tub, but UGC can show someone actually relaxing in it. Your photography might capture the perfect breakfast setup, while a reel can show the morning routine, the coffee being made and the view from the table.

That difference is what makes UGC so useful. It adds movement, personality and context to your existing content.

UGC can help build trust

When someone is spending hundreds or even thousands of pounds on a holiday, they want to feel confident about what they're booking. Professional photographs are important, but potential guests are also looking for content that feels genuine.

UGC can give them another perspective of your property and help them understand what staying there could actually be like. It can answer those little questions that a photograph doesn't always answer and give people a better feel for the space.

It also fits naturally into social media. We're constantly seeing people sharing their holidays, hotels and favourite places online, so UGC doesn't necessarily feel like an advert.

UGC isn't just for Instagram

It's easy to think of UGC as something that belongs on TikTok or Instagram Reels, but there's so much more you can do with it.

UGC can be used across your website, social media, email marketing and paid advertising. You could use a short video to introduce your property, create reels showcasing different features, use lifestyle images throughout your website or use guest-style videos as part of a paid campaign.

It also gives you more flexibility with your content. Instead of having a set of professional photographs that you use repeatedly, you have different clips and images that can be edited, repurposed and used in different ways throughout the year.

What makes good UGC for Airbnbs?

Good UGC isn't simply a case of pointing a phone at your property and pressing record. The content needs to have a purpose. What are you trying to show? Who are you trying to attract? What makes your property different? What would your ideal guest want to see before they book?

For one property, that might be the hot tub and romantic setting. For another, it could be the family-friendly facilities, the garden and what's available for children. For a glamping site, it might be the outdoor experience, the surrounding countryside and the little details inside the accommodation.

The best UGC captures these details naturally and gives potential guests a reason to stop scrolling and take notice.

UGC and professional photography work together

UGC isn't a replacement for professional photography. Professional photography gives you those high-quality images you need for your website, listings and wider marketing, while UGC gives you more natural, social-first content that can show the property in use.

That's why my accommodation content shoots can include both professional photography and UGC. I can create the polished imagery you need alongside reels, short-form videos and lifestyle content that gives you something completely different to share across your social channels.

Having both means you have a much wider variety of content to work with, rather than relying on the same handful of photographs every time you need to promote your property.

Creating UGC for accommodation businesses

At Marketing Bnb, I create UGC specifically for the hospitality industry, working with Airbnbs, holiday lets, B&Bs, boutique hotels and glamping businesses.

Whether you need UGC to refresh your social media, reels to promote your property or a full content shoot combining professional photography with more natural, guest-style content, the aim is to create assets you can actually use across your marketing.
